Tanya is a Zimbabwean-born performance poet living in the UK. Her work is the product of a diverse range of influences, from African story telling traditions to Christian preaching; from hip hop to spoken word. Her work connects with all audiences through passionate words and a powerful delivery.
She has been writing and performing since her late teens and has graced various stages including the Bloom Arts festival in London, Birmingham's Midlands Arts Centre and the Institute of Contemporary Art, London. She has also been featured in local newspapers and radio including the Voice Newspaper.
In July 2018, she self-published her first collection of poetry - On Praise and Protest. Following this publication, she was selected by the British Council to represent the UK in their collaborative artist residency ColabNowNow held in Maputo, Mozambique. She was one of nine participants from East, West, Southern Africa and UK. At the end of the residency, she exhibited a holographic and spoken word art piece - The African Time Capsule at Maputo Fast Forward - a digital art festival.
In December of 2018, she also featured as judge and guest poet for Dallas Poetry Slam, the largest and longest running slam event in the US.
